Spring is here – the calendar says so! If your property is like mine, spring also means the patio furniture is begging to be freed from the tarp over behind the shed, a few roof shingles hanging by a thread since the last big storm need tending to, and a few old limbs from that massive tree in the backyard might need trimming.
A quick walk around the perimeter of your house and a glance from across the street for any missed items are likely enough to give you a short to-do list. Why is this important? Because managing repairs when they are small significantly reduces the chance of larger — and more expensive — repairs later.
Another reason to do a spring clean-up: Keeping your property maintained also helps to maintain the value of your home over time, and who doesn’t need that? If your budget allows it, add a few improvements into the equation every couple of years to not only maximize your home’s value but decrease your liability exposure. Those cracks in the sidewalk leading to your front or back door slowly increase over time…true story. A new walkway or patio not only looks great but could potentially prevent costly insurance claims resulting from injuries.
But the visual inspection only tells part of the story: When was the last time your air conditioner had a tune-up? Get that baby ready to handle the summertime heat (and keep you cool!).
